The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is accepting Letters of Intent (LOIs) to support senior postdoctoral researchers on the brink of becoming independent investigators. The award is intended as seed money to help launch the scientific programs of promising new neuromuscular disease researchers. Eligible applicants must have an MD, PhD, DSc or equivalent degree (i.e., DO). Applicants must be qualified to conduct a program of original research under the supervision of an independent investigator and have a strong record of achievement with their postdoctoral mentor. Also, they must have a minimum of 18 months of post-degree (MD or PhD) research laboratory training at the time of the application but be no more than 60 months from receiving their most recent advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD or equivalent). In the case of MD, PhD applicants on a variable career path, they will need to consult with MDA to discuss their eligibility. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit hypothesis-driven applications on innovative research with the following elements in mind:
Should directly to a disease in MDA’s program
Should focus on accelerating therapy development for the disease in question
MDA is also seeking applications that may result in a new understanding of disease etiology and pathogenesis in neuromuscular disorders where these are not well understood
Letter Of Intent Deadline: June 15, 2018
